Friends of the National Arboretum needs your help planting native shrubs and grasses along the newly restored Springhouse Run, a stream that runs through the Arboretum and into the Anacostia River.
The stream has been beautifully restored with pools and riffles, rocks and waterfalls, and wide floodplain.
Next up is planting thousands of native plants grown from seeds gathered by the Arboretum staff and local garden clubs.
That’s where you can help!
We’re hosting three “open planting” days with 50-60 volunteers needed for each day. They will be on Thursday, November 2nd; Thursday, Nov 9th; and Saturday, November 18th.
We’re also hosting two “train the trainer‘ sessions, open to 20 folks– one on Thursday, October 19th and the second on Saturday, the 21st. We’d like anyone attending a training session to commit to helping with at least one of the “open planting” days, showing novice planters how to successfully plant shrubs and grasses.
We’ll supply tools, guidance and some refreshments.
Come on out and have good time!
