Becoming a FONA volunteer lets you indulge your passion for plants and make new friends who share your enthusiasm for nature while you help sustain the work of our nation’s flagship environmental horticulture institution. There are year-round indoor and outdoor volunteer opportunities that suit a wide variety of skills, talents, and interests.
Opportunities are available for:
- Special Events – assist with logistics, registration, and customer service for these (mostly) after-hours plant sales, cultural programs, workshops, and recreation…and get to join in the fun! Participate in the FONA Garden Fair—a signature event that ushers in the spring and draws crowds to the Arboretum each year.
- Washington Youth Garden – help make crops and young minds grow! Everything from maintenance and harvesting, to assisting school field trips and teaching gardening. You can find out more about volunteering with WYG fill out an application here.
- Nonprofit expertise – do you have a skill that can contribute to FONA’s efficacy in promoting and supporting the Arboretum? Here’s an opportunity to assist with a variety of needs, from fundraising to authoring newsletter features to photography to social media outreach.
